The Municipal Director of Health Services for Kwahu West in the Eastern Region,
Ms Celestina Asante, has put up an ultra-modern office complex at Abepotia to serve as a vaccination centre and attend to other health-related issues.
The project, which had the support from some inhabitants in the area, was part of efforts to address the heath needs of the people of Nkawkaw and its surrounding villages.
The 12-unit building was last week commissioned by the Registrar of Scholarships Secretariat, Mr Kingsley Agyemang, and other dignitaries, including the Chief of Obomeng, Nana Opinamang III, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkawkaw and the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West.
Prior to the construction of the facility, the initial building affected healthcare delivery in the area.
“Initially, we had just three rooms which I occupied one; the staff occupied the rest and then the vaccine. This affected us in the delivery of our work,” Ms Celestina Asante said.
“With regards to even the vaccine room, which was being shared, we knew we can one day unconsciously contaminate them and cause problems to the general population, because they are sterile commodities,” she said.
She said as a result of this, she sold the idea of constructing a new health centre to the community members, which was well received.
MAINTENANCE CULTURE
The Obomenghene, who allocated land for the project, on his part, charged managers of the facility to ensure that they maintain it well so that it will go a long way to achieve its purpose.
She commended the Municipal Director of Health Services for her resolve in ensuring that the building got to the completion stage, and called on others to emulate the act.
The Chairing the programme, Mr Agyemang, also said he was impressed with the edifice, especially, knowing how it all started.
He added that he believed this was a way of giving back to society.
He further advised the indigenes in the area to put the facility to good use for it to achieve its purpose.
According to him, the initiative embarked upon by Ms Celestine should serve as motivation for others.
“We should not always say we are waiting for government to do this and do that for us. We can initiate our own project when we come together. This beautiful health facility, as we see today, was a result of the vision of an individual, and through the support of some community members, here we are today, commission it,” he said.
“If Ms Celestina had not dreamt about it; if we all hadn’t come together to give her our support, this would not have happened,” Mr Agyemang said.
Mr Agyemang aside donating an amount of GH¢10,000 towards the upkeep of the facility, further pledged to donate an amount of $10,000 for the purchase of a power plant for the health centre.
