The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 13th African Games has on Thursday, 31st March 2022, paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
The visit, according to the Executive Chairman of the LOC Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, was to officially introduce the LOC to the leader of the Islamic community as Ghana prepares to host the Pan-African Games for the first time in the Games’ 57-year-old history.
In his address, Dr. Ofosu-Asare briefed the National Chief Imam on the LOC’s mandate and the progress of work on the Borteyman and Legon Sports complexes which are under construction.
Citing the current political climate in some African countries, the Executive Chairman informed the Chief Imam that it is the LOC’s intention to use the African Games as a vehicle to promote peace and stability on the continent.
With Muslims across the country expected to start Ramadan (observance of the 30-day spiritual exercise of fasting and prayers), Dr. Ofosu-Asare reiterated his call for the Chief Imam and all Muslims to keep Ghana and Accra 2023 in their prayers for a successful event.
Meanwhile, the National Chief Imam assured the LOC of his support and spiritual backing.
