Kyidomhene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, who is also the Chief of Sefwi Nsuonsua, Nana Elluo Panyin ll has called on the Ghana Health Service to see it as a matter of urgency to educate Ghanaians on the health implications surrounding the controversial activities involving homosexuals.
This, he believes, will unveil the dangers associated with the activities of gays and lesbians.
Nana Elluo Panyin Il made the call when the Regional Health Directorate held its first and also 2020 Annual Performance Review meeting at Sefwi Wiawso, Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
The Programme was under the Theme: ‘Sustaining the Gains in Healthcare and Improving service Delivery Target’s, The Role of Service Providers and Stakeholders’.
Delivering his closing note address on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso traditional Council, Okatakyie Akwasi Bumangamall, Nana Elluo Panyin Il condemned the activities of gays and lesbians.
He also condemned rumours making rounds that there has been a commissioning of an office complex to perpetrate the activities of the gays and lesbians on Sefwi land.
Dispelling the rumour, the chief said granted that rumour was true, there was no way the land of Sefwi would accommodate activities of lesbians and gays.
This is because the practice is culturally, morally and socially against the tradition of Nananom and it is an abomination, he noted.
“We condemn it and that’s the reason why it’s our concern for our Health professionals to feed us with the health implications of the activities of the gays and lesbians so that we the traditional rulers will back it with our culture and traditional values in other to put more weight in the fight against it in the country.”
The call by the chief followed recent LGBTQI office in Accra and that there will be a commissioning of another office complex in the Sefwi enclave.
The chief of Sefwi Nsuonsua also hinted that even though it is circulating in the media about the purported commissioning of the gays and lesbians Office on Sefwi land, no chief on Sefwi land will entertain such abomination.
“It is the culture of some people elsewhere, but not in Ghana, it goes against our culture and traditional values, so let’s condemn it and fight against it.”
On the issue of the COVID 19 Vaccination which is yet to start, Nana Elluo Panyin Il urge the Ghana Health Service to intensify the education on the need of people to receive the COVID 19 vaccine, adding that the intensification of the education will clear the minds of some Ghanaians who have negative perception, with respect to taking the vaccine.
He, therefore, pledged the support of Nananom to the Ghana Health Service and urged them to collaborate with the traditional authorities in giving a quality Health care delivery to the people.
On her part, the Western North Regional Director of Health, Dr Marion Okoh Owusu, opined that the Western North Region, as a newly created Region, is confronted with numerous challenges in the health care delivery, but regardless of the numerous challenges they were facing, they were able to improve their service delivery.
She hinted that Malaria is on one of the diseases which is still gaining root in the Region and for that matter they have put things in place to intensify education on the need of using mosquito nets, keeping the surroundings clean and other things that could help deal with the situation.
Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, Director General of Ghana Health Service, commended the Health workers in the Western North Region for their dedication and commitment to duty in spite of the challenges in the region.
He said the creation of the new region has come in a right time and this is going to see a face lift in the sector to solve the numerous challenges facing the sector in the region.
He added that, there should be a twenty four hours service in all the Health facilities in all communities in the District since this is a farming area and it is the need of the people to enjoy quality health care at all times.
