Former president John Dramani Mahama has vehemently expressed his disagreement with the ruling of the Supreme Court that went against his wish to have a re-run of the December presidential poll that declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo winner.
“I disagree with the process of the trial and the ruling of the court,” Mr Mahama openly stated.
The former president firmly stated this position during his first address to the media some few hours after the final ruling of the Supreme Court was read to the nation.
In spite of his strong exception to the Apex Court’s ruling yesterday, he said “I am aware that we are legally bound by the decision of the Supreme Court.”
Commenting further, Mr Mahama emphatically mentioned that a common principle of rule of law postulated that justice must not just be done, but must manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done.
Using the explicit expression above as a yardstick, Mr Mahama stated that justice could not be said to have been done, backing his assertion countless number of times that a unanimous decisions was taken by the court against his petition.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the motto of Ghana’s Election Commission is transparency, fairness and integrity,” he stated.
Going forward, Mr Mahama posited the commission that is constitutionally mandated to conduct elections in the country failed to live up to its motto.
“Requests for interrogatories were dismissed; requests to admit facts was dismissed,” he stated, adding that his legal team would give a proper interpretation of the ruling.
Mr Mahama recounted that everything possible was done by the counsel for the first respondent to ensure that the Chairperson of the first respondent evaded rendering proper account to the good people of Ghana.
In his candid views, the refusal of the Chairperson of the first respondent to stand the test of scrutiny would only serve a bad precedent in the future.
